Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! Mother’s Day celebrates the importance of motherhood and is celebrated in different ways and at different times throughout many parts of the world. The American holiday was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 in effort to recognize the sacrifices mothers make for their children, and was recognized as a US holiday in 2014. However, Jarvis disliked how commercialized the day became. Consequently, she spent much of her life trying to get it removed from the calendar.
Today, Mother’s Day is often celebrated by presenting mothers with cards, flowers, and other gifts such has jewelry. It is common for families to celebrate this day with family gatherings and special meals.
My husband and I took my mother and aunt out to dinner last night at the Catina Ristorante Care in Middletown, CT in celebration. We indulged in a traditional Italian meal that was out of this world. We will also be picking up a couple of hanging baskets for my mother.
My mother is an outstanding woman who inspires us everyday; she selflessly gives more of herself than anyone I know. She is always their for my sister and I when we need anything. She is a devoted grandmother and aunt. My mother also gives to her church and people who are in need.
On this day and everyday, I encourage you to be sure to let you mother know what she means to you. Last year I lost my stepfather to a sudden heart attack and did not have the chance to say some of the things I would have liked to have shared about how important he was to me. Please be sure that you do not allow this to happen to you.
Happy Mother’s Day!
